ROM and Photobook Rules
Cosplay ROMs and photobooks may be listed, but items containing any of the following content cannot be listed:
- Depictions of genitalia or sexual acts
- Unedited exposure of private parts
- Child pornography, or sexual depictions of subjects under 18
- Adult-only (R-18) content
- The title, description, sample images, package images, or similar materials that suggest adult-only content or contain excessively sexual appeals
Photobooks featuring character costume recreations (including swimwear, bunny suits, etc.) or glamour-style photography are permitted.
However, even glamour-style works cannot be listed if they contain sexual acts, exposure of private parts, excessively sexual poses or presentation, or content equivalent to R-18.
COSMA may review ROMs and photobooks more carefully than ordinary items. If COSMA determines that a listing is inappropriate, we may unpublish or delete the listing, or restrict the account. If you are unsure, please contact us before listing.
Listing Tips
Take photos of the actual item
Please include multiple photos of the actual item so buyers can purchase with confidence. If there are stains or damage, include close-up photos of those areas. Worn photos (showing how the costume looks on) are especially helpful.
Include measurements whenever possible
Cosplay costume sizing varies greatly by manufacturer. Including actual measurements (bust, waist, hips, length, etc.) helps prevent post-purchase "doesn't fit" issues. Fit notes like "perfect fit for 165cm average build" are also useful.
Describe the item's condition honestly
Accurately describing an item's condition is a seller's obligation. Misrepresenting the condition may result in seller liability for non-conformity under civil law.
- New: Unused, with tags
- Like new: Try-on only, barely used
- Used a few times: Worn at 1–3 events
- Shows wear: Used multiple times, some deterioration
Set a shipping estimate
Please set an estimated number of days to ship so buyers can judge whether it will arrive in time for their event. In principle, please ship within 3 business days of a completed transaction.
Include character and series names
Enter the character name and series name accurately so your listing is easy to find in search.
Pricing
- Prices can be set between ¥500 and ¥999,999 (extremely low prices are not allowed due to payment processing fees)
- At transaction completion, a payment fee (3.6%) + platform fee (5%) is deducted
- Your take-home amount is shown when you list
Note on the Premiums and Representations Act: Misrepresentations that cause buyers to believe an item is significantly superior to reality (superior goods misrepresentation) or that transaction conditions are significantly more advantageous than reality (advantageous conditions misrepresentation) are prohibited by law.
Transaction Flow
- List: Enter photos and details and post your listing
- Purchase: Buyer completes payment (funds are held through Stripe until the transaction is completed)
- Ship: Seller packs and ships the item, enters tracking number
- Receipt confirmation: Buyer confirms item arrival
- Receive payout: After confirmation, funds are transferred to your registered Stripe account
* If receipt is not confirmed, the transaction is automatically completed 14 days after shipping.
Copyright
Cosplay costumes are often based on original character designs, which may raise copyright concerns. Please be aware of the following:
- Officially licensed items: Costumes manufactured under an official license can be resold as secondhand goods.
- Handmade or commissioned items: Selling costumes you made yourself or had made to order is commonly done as disposal of unwanted items made for personal use, but the legal status under copyright law varies by case.
- Prohibited activities: Copying official costume designs without authorization and mass-producing/selling them for profit is highly likely to constitute copyright infringement.
If you have questions about copyright, please consult a specialist (such as a lawyer). The Operator is not in a position to provide legal advice on copyright matters.
Handling Rights Holder Reports
If a copyright or trademark rights holder files a report about a listing that infringes their rights, the Operator will respond as follows:
- Upon receiving a report, the listing is promptly unpublished.
- The seller is notified that a report has been filed and the reason for the unpublishing.
- If the seller wishes to contest, they must contact the Operator within 14 days of the notification with grounds showing no infringement.
- If no contest is filed, or if the contest is found to have no reasonable grounds, the listing is deleted.
- If the contest has reasonable grounds, the Operator notifies the rights holder and encourages resolution between the rights holder and the seller.
Secondhand Goods Dealer License
Selling costumes or props you personally used (disposing of unwanted items) generally does not require a secondhand goods dealer license. However, a license (under Article 3 of the Secondhand Goods Dealer Act) may be required in the following cases:
- Repeatedly selling items purchased for resale
- Repeatedly buying and selling goods for profit
For more details, see the FAQ or contact the Community Safety Division of your nearest police station.
Violations
If a listing that violates these guidelines is discovered, the operations team may take the following actions. The specific action taken will depend on the severity and intent of the violation.
- Deletion of the listing
- Warning to the seller
- Temporary restriction of listing or purchasing functions
- Temporary or permanent account suspension
If you find a violation, please use the "Report" button on the item page.
For detailed legal terms, please see the Terms of Service.
